Erika Stiedry-Wagner--singer and friend of Schoenberg. She performed Pierrot lunaire many times. She was the wife of the conductor Fritz Stiedry (1883-1968) who was a friend of and strong advocate for Schoenberg. Fritz Stiedry conducted many of Schoenberg's works in Vienna and Berlin. He emigrated to Russia in 1933, where he conducted in Leningrad and Moscow until 1937, when he emigrated to the United States. In New York he was the director of the New Friends of Music. He also held conducting posts at the Metropolitan Opera, and the Chicago Civic Opera.
