René Leibowitz--French musicologist, teacher, composer and conductor. He studied with Schoenberg and Webern (1930-1933). He also studied orchestration with Maurice Ravel (1933). He performed many of Schoenberg's works in France. Some of the books he wrote include Schoenberg et son école (1947), Introduction à la musique de douze sons (1949), and Schoenberg (1969).
